CMU Insider asked students to discuss their views on voting. Below is some information on how to register to vote.
Michigan’s presidential primary election will take place on March 8. The general election will take place on Nov. 8.
Voter Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be 18 by general election day
- Must be a resident of Michigan and the city or township where you are applying to register to vote.
In order to vote, a person must register 28 days prior to the election. Registration can be completed by mail, at the county, city or township clerk’s office, or by visiting any Secretary of State branch.
Students are eligible to receive absentee ballots in Michigan. However, the student is required to have voted previously in person. This provision can be circumvented by visiting your county clerk in person and receiving the absentee ballot.
Absentee ballots must be received by 2 p.m. Saturday before the election.
