Today CMU Insider celebrates its first birthday despite the odds.
Just one year ago, Insider was started with a mission on shedding new light on issues that affect the lives of Central Michigan University students. Many of our colleagues doubted we would last the semester.
Not only have we survived, we have rapidly expanded.
When the site first started, we had one editor (who has graduated and now writes for Automotive News) and two reporters (Wyatt and I).
Now we have two editors, four reporters, one public relations volunteer and a network of opinion writers.
As the editor of CMU Insider, the thing I am most proud of is our content.
We have taken a hard look at the budget, documented the University stonewalling information, broke down politics, created a crime data page and asked the tough questions.
But we are not stopping here.
We are starting to collaborate with the Morning Sun. We will be starting a series of videos that will document the CMU experience. In a couple of weeks, we will have the first episode of our podcast “Homo Sapiens of CMU.”
This wouldn’t be possible without the support of our readers, the staff and faculty of the CMU journalism department, and everyone who continues to support and believe in us.
Want to join the fun? Come work for us! We are always looking for new people with fresh ideas to help the next year be even better.
